Abstract

To use the unique properties of nanocrystalline ferrites in magneto-optical devices, it is important that they have a narrow particle size distribution. The present paper illustrates the potential of the microemulsion technique to synthesise different nanocrystalline ferrites (nickel ferrites, zinc ferrites) with such a narrow particle size distribution. The results of preliminary characterisation by field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, and X-ray diffraction are presented, confirming the nanocrystalline and spinel crystallographic structure of nickel ferrites.
