Abstract
1. A simple method was developed for the synthesis of the monofurfuryl and tetrahydrofurfuryl ethers of 1,2-glycols by reacting the alcoholates of furfuryl or tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohols with the appropriate chlorohydrins. 2. The monofurfuryl ethers of 1,2-glycols when hydrogenated in the liquid phase on skeletal Ni-Al catalyst are converted almost quantitatively to the corresponding tetrahydrofurfuryl ethers.
