Abstract

This work was undertaken to evaluate the adsorption and the photocatalytic degradation performance of MgO/TiO2/Ag composites, which were prepared by a simple precursor calcination method. The obtained MgO/TiO2/Ag composites present an excellent adsorption performance towards As(V) ions, which can be well described by the Freundlich model. The adsorption capacity was larger than 90.66 mg g−1 at pH 7.0. It is worth mentioning that this adsorbent performed well over a considerably wide pH range of 6–12. The kinetic data can be described by pseudo-second-order model. Furthermore, a good photocatalytic degradation performance towards MB dye was also achieved under both UV and visible light irradiation. In addition, the simultaneously As(V) adsorption and methylene blue (MB) photodegradation properties were also investigated. The presence of As(V) ions has no influence on the photocatalytic degradation of MB dye. On the contrary, the removal efficiency of As(V) ions was decreased during the MB photodegradation process.
