Abstract

MnO 2/reduced graphene oxide(RGO) composites were synthesized by a facile and effective polymer-assisted chemical reduction method. The synthetic MnO 2/RGO composites have a uniform surface distribution and large coverage of MnO 2 nanoparticles onto graphene, which were characterized with scanning electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and cyclic voltammetry. The synthetic MnO 2/RGO composites were studied with respect to its electrocatalytic activity toward the reduction of oxygen in alkaline media and were found to possess a good electrocatalytic activity toward the four-electron reduction of oxygen.
