Abstract

CdSe hollow and solid nanospheres have been prepared using liposomes as templates. The products were characterized through transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV–Vis absorption spectra. The results showed that the hollow nanospheres were obtained at low concentration of reaction precursors, while the solid nanospheres were obtained at high concentration of reaction precursors. Both the hollow and solid nanospheres ranging in diameter mainly from 40 to 70 nm were built-up of cubic CdSe crystals with sizes of a few nanometers. Pronounced blue shift from the bulk CdSe in the absorption spectra were observed, as expected for the quantum confinement effect. The possible mechanism of the formation of the CdSe hollow and solid nanospheres was provided.
