Abstract

LixNi1/3Mn2/3O2 (x>2/3) with O3 structure has been synthesized from P2 type Na2/3Ni1/3Mn2/3O2 via reduction-ion exchange method. Raman scattering and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results demonstrate that cation environment in the as-prepared LixNi1/3Mn2/3O2 is similar to that of O3-LixNi1/3Mn2/3O2 prepared from P3-Na2/3Ni1/3Mn2/3O2. It was found that the galvanostatic charge–discharge and cyclic voltammetry (CV) curves of the LixNi1/3Mn2/3O2 compound are different from that of the Li2/3Ni1/3Mn2/3O2 compound. The LixNi1/3Mn2/3O2 cathode exhibits stable cycling performance and delivers a discharge capacity of 230mAhg−1 at the end of 30th cycle in the voltage window between 2.5 and 4.7V (50°C). Furthermore, LixNi1/3Mn2/3O2 cathode delivers a discharge capacity of 190mAhg−1 at 500mAg−1 (~2.5C rate).
