Abstract

Rheological phase (RP) method has been successfully applied to synthesize a promising cathode material LiNi 0.65Co 0.25Mn 0.1O 2. X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, inductively coupled plasma and transmission electron microscope are used to investigate the structure, composition and morphology, respectively. XRD result shows that the as-prepared powder has a layered α-NaFeO 2 structure. XPS pattern reveals that the Ni ions have valences of 2+ and 3+, and the Co and Mn are 3+, 4+, respectively. The electrode consisting of the obtained powder presents the better electrochemical properties, which is attributed to the fewer amounts of Ni 2+ ions and the smaller particles. All the results suggest that the rheological phase method is a promising technique for the preparation of LiNi 0.65Co 0.25Mn 0.1O 2 cathode material of lithium-ion batteries.
