Abstract

Neuropeptide Y (NPY) is a 36 amino acid neurotransmitter that is widely distributed in both the central and peripheral nervous system. The concentration of NPY is markedly increased in the hypothalamus during food deprivation. NPY Y5 (one of the receptor sub-types) is involved in feeding regulation and energy expenditure and therefore inhibitors of it are of interest as potential anti-obesity agents.
