Abstract

In this research, imidazoline-linoleic derivative from triethylenetetramine (TETA) and linoleic acid (LNA) were successfully synthesized with solvent free using MAOS (Microwave Assisted Organic Synthesis) method in variation of reaction time. TETA-LNA imidazoline was in mixture with imidazoline-oleic derivative with the optimum mass of 1.70 g at 9 min reaction time. Furthermore, TETA-LNA imidazoline structure had been confirmed using FTIR, UV-Vis, and LC-MS/MS spectral data. Its activity as corrosion inhibitor was measured by varying TETA-LNA concentration in 1 % NaCl using cyclic voltammetry then processed using Tafel polarization method to obtain percentage of inhibition efficiency (% IE). The highest corrosion inhibitor activity was achieved at 500 ppm with % IE of 89.3 %. It can be suggested that imidazoline-linoleic derivatives can be used as corrosion inhibitor towards carbon steel.
