Abstract

The influence of mechanochemical treatment conditions on the formation of magnesium tungstate MgWO4 with its subsequent mechanochemical reduction with magnesium was studied by x-ray diffraction analysis. The mechanochemical treatment of a mixture of tungsten (VI) oxide with magnesium oxide (WO3:MgO = 1:1) for 8 min leads to the formation of magnesium tungstate. The mechanochemical reduction of magnesium tungstate with magnesium is completed in 8 min of mechanical treatment with the formation of the mechanochemical composite W/MgO. The separation of tungsten from magnesium oxide from W/MgO mechanochemical composite was carried out using 1 M H2SO4. The SEM method showed that the tungsten powder is highly dispersed with particle sizes of 100 nm, which are aggregated into larger particles with sizes up to 3 μm.
