Abstract

The reaction of I( CH 2) 2 CHCH 2O and an excess of LiI with [Mo(CNMe)(CO) 2(η-C 5H 5)] − gives crystallographically characterized cis- [ MoI( CO) 2= C( CH 2) 2 CH( CH 2 OH) N Me (η-C 5H 5)]. This reacts with C 5H 5NO to give a high yield of the γ-lactam Me NC(=O) CH 2 CH 2 C H( CH 2 OH) . The corresponding reaction of I( CH 2) 3 CHCH 2 O with excess LiI and [Mo(CNMe)(CO) 2(η-C 5H 5)] − gives cis-[ Mo( CO) 2η 2- C( CH 2) 3 CH( CH 2 I) O NHMe] (also crystallographically characterized) rather than a carbene complex.
