Abstract
Several reports on the prebiotic formation of amino acids have been previously published. Glutamic acid was synthesized from a mixture of simple gases by electric discharge (1, 2) and by heat (3). Glutamic acid was also formed from hydrogen cyanide and ammonia (4), from formaldehyde, ammonium chloride, and ammonium nitrate under irradiation of ultraviolet rays (5), by pyrolysis of formamide (6), and by pyrolysis of a reaction product of formaldehyde and ammonia (7).
