Abstract

The title compounds are prepared from simple oximes, chlorine and HF. Chlorination of oximes gives gem-chloronitroso derivatives. With no further reagent, these intermediates are transformed, in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, into gem-chlorofluoro- and -difluoro-alkanes. In a one-step procedure, chlorination of oximes directly in HF leads to the same compounds. This method, which can be performed on a large scale, avoids the use of sulfur tetrafluoride.
