Abstract

Duplex composite coatings composed of a Cu-rich particles (Cup)-reinforced Fe-rich layer and Fe-rich particles (Fep)-reinforced Cu-rich layer were synthesized in-situ by laser cladding. The addition of Si caused the coarsening of the Cup and the Fep, enhanced the area percentage of the Fe-rich layer in the total coating, and induced in-situ formation of the intermetallic compound Fe3Si. As a result, the microhardness of the Fe-rich and Cu-rich layers in the Cu61.1Fe32.9Si6 coating was much higher than that of the Fe-rich and Cu-rich layers in the Cu65Fe35 coating. The wear resistance of the Cu61.1Fe32.9Si6 duplex composite coating was also better than that of the Cu65Fe35 duplex composite coating.
