Abstract

During chemical oxidation of aniline, pyrrole or 3-methylthiophene, certain vinyl monomers undergo random copolymerization. The products of these reactions are insoluble in solvents which dissolve the vinyl homopolymers, indicating that the vinyl units are chemically incorporated. This finding is supported by elemental analysis of the copolymers. Monomer reactivity ratios are reported. It is anticipated that, because of their homogeneity, the copolymers will possess significant advantages over blends and composites of the individual homopolymers.
