Abstract

Abstract Halogenation and phenylthiolation of hexabenzocoronenetetraone were performed. We found that introduction of substituents at the fjord regions induced substantial curvature of the hexabenzocoronene (HBC) plane through steric repulsion between the substituents and proximal hydrogen atoms. This method allows construction of curved HBC derivatives, which would allow formation of novel supramolecular structures.
