Abstract
A stereoselective synthesis of the title compound (II) as well as that of its lower homolog, 6-ethyl-10-methylundeca-5- trans, 9-dien-2-one (III), was accomplished. Both were converted to methyl dl-12,14-dihomojuvenate ( dl-C 18- Cecropia juvenile hormone, I) and methyl dl-14-homojuvenate (IV), respectively. Analogs of the Cecropia juvenile hormones with an ethynyl substituent (XVIII and XIX) were also synthesized.
