Abstract

In this work the synthesis and physical properties of composite Si-B nanoparticles are described. Boron-silicon-containing nanoparticles were obtained with the laser-induced pyrolysis of a silane and boron trichloride mixture under cw CO2-laser irradiation. The particles are heterogeneous in their composition structure: particles consisting of both the crystalline and amorphous phases. The size of the crystalline silicon phase depends on the gas flows’ ratio and at the equal point P(SiH4):P(BCl3) = 1:1 the crystalline core has almost disappeared. The possible pyrolysis reaction mechanism was proposed on the basis of the FTIR and TEM data.
