Abstract

The solid-gas reaction of the physical mixtures of cobalt(II) nitrate hexahydrate and ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate with gaseous ammonia was studied. The process was examined with the use of in situ X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD). Mixtures of cobalt molybdenum nitrides Co2Mo3N and Co3Mo3N were obtained at 700 °C. CoMoO4, Co2Mo3O8, Mo2N and metallic cobalt were identified as intermediates. The presented synthesis method allows the direct route of cobalt molybdenum nitrides formation without the wet preparation of oxidic precursor.
