Abstract

Chiroptical properties were induced in small (<2 nm) silver nanoparticles (NPs) grown on 1000 base pair poly(dA)−poly(dT) around their surface plasmon resonance wavelength. Cutting of the DNA template with DNase and separating the DNA coated NPs did not eliminate the chiroptical response. The induction of chirality in the DNA-Ag NPs with metal cores of more than 100 atoms is based on weak multibase-Ag interactions in contrast to the strong monomeric thiol-metal interaction that was previously reported to induce chiroptical properties silver or gold clusters of less than 100 atoms.
