Abstract

Accidents in the nuclear industry andnuclear terrorist attacks renderthe development of new decontamination strategies critical. Scientists haverecently conductedintensive studieson p-tert-butylcalix[6]areneand its derivatives because of their ability to form complex with radioactive substances. This articlepresents the synthesis ofcompounds2,4,6-triethylester-1,3,5-trimethoxy-p-tert-butylcalix[6]arene and 1,3,5-trimethoxy-2,4,6-tri (carboxylicacid)-p-tert-butylcalix[6]arene. This synthesiswas based onthe Williamson reaction using potassium carbonate as base. The structures of the synthesized compounds were determined by adopting IR, MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR databases.
