Abstract

3,8-Diamino-5-[3-(12-(3-aminopropyl)- p-carborane-1-yl)propyl]-6-phenyl phenanthridinium chloride hydrochloride ( 13) has been synthesised by reacting 3,8-diacetamido-6-phenylphenanthridine ( 9) with 1-(3- N, N-dibenzyloxycarbonylaminopropyl)-12-(3-iodopropyl)-1,12-dicarba- closo-dodecaborane ( 8a) in nitrobenzene at 120°C for 4 days and subsequent removal of the protective groups using 33% HBr/AcOH. Conversion to the chloride hydrochloride was accomplished by the action of hydrochloric acid on the pseudo-base of 13.
