Abstract
Heterocyclic compounds are an important class of organic compounds as most of the bioactive natural products including antibiotics, anticancer drugs, vitamins and hormones contain heterocyclic rings incorporated into their structures. Moreover, the heterocyclic rings in these compounds act as active pharmacophores. Our research group is involved in designing and synthesizing heterocyclic compounds using a green chemistry approach and evaluating them for health-related bioactivities. This chapter describes our recent discoveries in the area of synthesis of heterocyclic compounds and their bioactivities. Additionally, structure–activity relationship studies on a few bioactive heterocyclic natural products are also discussed.
