Abstract

Ti-5 mass % Al powder and Nb-10 mass % Al powder were prepared by mechanical alloying (MA) of elemental metal powders milling for maximum 720ks in 35kPa Ar gas atmosphere. At powder of approximately 40 vol % were added in these powders. These mixtures were heated to 1200K after forming at 933K under a pressure of 20MPa. Aluminide intermetallics were synthesized by SHS reaction. The reaction temperature between MA powders and At depended on the milling time and the At content in MA powders. The density of aluminide intermetallics which obtained in this process were 85 % of the theoretical density. When At powder and ceramic powder had been added in this process, intermetallics matrix composites were prepared at low-temperature.
