Abstract

In this manuscript, Ag–AgO/Al2O3 nanocomposite was successfully synthesized through a two-step method including hydrothermal approach to achieve Ag–AlO(OH) and then annealing at 800 °C for 3 h. AgNO3, ethylenediamine, and hydrazine hydrate were used as the new set of low-cost starting reagents. The obtained nanostructures were characterized by techniques such as XRD, SEM, EDX, DRS and FTIR. Afterwards, the efficiency of Ag–AgO/Al2O3 nanocomposite as a photocatalyst for the decolorization of methylene blue using ultraviolet light irradiation was evaluated. Moreover, for the first time, the effect of Ag to Al2O3 ratio on the photocatalytic activity was investigated.
