Abstract

This study describes the synthesis of adsorbent from rubber wood sawdust. The adsorbent is the activated carbon here. Temperature and activation time were used to investigate the effects of process factors on the pore structure of activated carbons. The adsorbent were prepared from char using muffle furnace at temperature of 400 °C. In this work, we showed two types of activation, namely before pyrolysis activation (AC-01), and after pyrolysis activation (AC-02). The adsorption capacity of (AC-01) obtained was 12.139 dye adsorbed (mg of dye/g of adsorbent) in 500 PPM of initial methylene blue concentration and adsorption capacity of (AC-02) obtained was 12.14 dye adsorbed (mg of dye/g of adsorbent) in 500 PPM of initial methylene blue concentration.
