Abstract

Nano-structure of a new 3D- double-chain lead(II) coordination polymer, [Pb(PyDC)(H2O)]n (1), {H2PyDC=2,3-pyridinedicarboxylic acid} was synthesized by a sonochemical process. The new nano-structure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), IR spectroscopy and elemental analyses. The structure of compound 1 was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction consisting of 3D double-chain polymeric units. The coordination number in compound 1 was seven and each lead atom was coordinated by one oxygen atom of H2O, one nitrogen atom of H2PyDC ligand, and five oxygen atoms of carboxylate groups on the ligand. The thermal stability of compound 1 was studied by thermal gravimetric and differential thermal analyses. Calcination of the nanocompound 1 at 400°C under air atmosphere yielded nano-sized particles of PbO characterized by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray powder diffraction.
