Abstract
The structures of some of the intermediates in Saulnier-Gribble synthesis of ellipticine have been determined. One of the intermediates 8 has been converted to 5-methyl-6H-pyrido[4,3-b]carbazole-11-methanol, an alkaloid isolated from Strychnos dinklagei.
