Abstract

In the presence of cyclic phosphoric acid, a series of 2-substituted benzimidazoles were synthesized by the reaction of o-phenylenediamine and aldehyde in tetrahydrofuran at room temperature. The influence of different catalysts, catalyst amount and solvent were investigated, the optimal reaction conditions were obtained and a possible mechanism was proposed. The reaction has the virtue of simple operation, mild reaction condition, high yield and environment friendliness.
