Abstract

AbstractTwo general routes to 1,5‐dimethylalkanes were developed. One of these uses 5‐hydroxy‐2‐pentanone, the other 6‐methyl‐5‐hepten‐2‐one, as a starting material. Although overall yields are only fair, the chemicals employed are inexpensive and the procedures are easily reproduced, thus making such compounds available for study.
