Abstract
Abstractα.α′‐Dibromomethyl sulfide was obtained by reacting sym‐trithiane with bromine. Bromomethyl sulfenyl bromide was postulated as an intermediate in this reaction. The latter substance also condenses with ethylene to produce α.α′‐dibromomethyl ethyl sulfide. α.ω Dibromopolythimethylene was obtained by treating sym‐trithiane in bulk at 180°C with α.α′‐dibromomethyl sulfide. Polythiomethylene was obtained by treating α.α′‐dibromomethyl sulfide with water.
