Abstract
A new β-diketone, 1-(p-phenylethynylphenyl)-1,3-butanedione (HPB), was synthesized, and the composition of the new β-diketone was confirmed with elemental analysis, 1H NMR and IR spectra. The result of 1H NMR spectroscopy indicates that the HPB exists as an enol form isomer, which is consisted with the result of IR analysis. Tb(PB)3phen and Eu(PB)3phen have been synthesized by the reaction of HPB and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) with Tb (III) and Eu (III) respectively and characterized by IR spectra, chemical analysis, elemental analysis and thermodynamic analysis. At room temperature, under UV light excitation, the Tb (III), Eu (III) complexes show characteristic emission of the central ions. It has been found that HPB ligand has enormous effect on the luminescent property of the rare earth complexes, matching well with the result of quantum chemistry calculation.
