Synthesis in the furan series from organolithium compounds

Abstract

1. The syntheses of new sulfides of the furan series and their conversion into alkylthio-substituted aldehydes, ketones, and acids are described. 2. By the reductive desulfurization of 3-acetyl-5-alkyl-2-(alkylthio)furans and the corresponding acids these may be converted into furan derivatives with a functional group in theβ-position of the ring.
