Abstract

Preparation, crystal growth, morphology and characterization of tetragonal ABCO 4 compounds are serveyed. After a brief description of the properties of the compounds, the role of the preparation and synthesis of initial compounds and the composition of melt for crystal growth is discussed. Then the observations of facets on the crystals obtained by Czocbralski method, and the origin of the change in the color of the crystals are reviewed. Finally, it is pointed out that single crystals of SrLaGaO 4 and SrPrGaO 4 are attractive as substrate for the high-temperature superconductors and SrLaGaO 4 for GaN thin films.
