Abstract

Abstract In this paper, EMT-type zeolites were successfully synthesized via microwave and conventional hydrothermal heating with seed-direct organic-template free system. The hydrothermal heating, microwave heating and two-step crystallization method were compared to form EMT zeolite. The prepared EMT zeolites were characterized by XRD, SEM, IR, TGA and BET analysis. The results showed that, hydrothermal heating could obtain EMT zeolite with high crystallinity of 104% in 72 h, while the surface of crystal is rough. Microwave heating significantly reduced the synthesis time from 72 h to 30 min, while the sample were agglomerated. Two-step crystallization method also reduced the synthesis time to 13 h, the sample was of the high crystallinity (132%), regular appearance, thermal stability and high surface area. Meanwhile, the effect of reaction time and temperature of two-step crystallization method on the synthesis of EMT zeolite was studied. The EMT zeolite with the highest crystallinity of 162% was prepared by microwave heating at 353 K for 30 min at first and hydrothermal heating at 323 K for 18 h subsequently.
