Abstract
Organic–inorganic hybrid sample [H(C10H10N2)]4Cu4Cl8 where C10H10N2 = 4-Aminoquinaldine (4-AQ), has been prepared under mild hydrothermal conditions and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, FT-IR and UV–Vis spectroscopies, differential scanning calorimetric and dielectric measurement. X-ray crystal analysis of the complex confirmed that the copper ion has a distorted tetrahedron environment. The cohesion and stabilization of the structure are provided by the π–π interactions among the aromatic rings of 4-AQ and the hydrogen bond interactions between 4-AQ cation and [Cu4Cl8]4− anionic clusters. The Hirschfeld surface analysis has been performed to explore the behavior of these weak interactions. The thermal study revealed that this compound undergoes two structural phase transitions around 276 and 347 K. The dielectric analysis was investigated confirming the transition temperatures detected in the differential scanning calorimetric. The optical spectra indicate that the compound has a direct band gap (3.23 eV) due to direct transition.
