Abstract

New heteroleptic cobalt (II) complex [Co(AMP)2(TPC)2] (CAPTC) was synthesized using 2-aminopyridine and 3-Bromothiophene-2-carboxylic acid and the CAPTC was characterized by various spectroscopic techniques. The structure of complex (CAPTC) was resolved by single crystal X-ray diffraction method. FT-IR spectra showed that the ligands aminopyridine and 3-bromothiophene carboxylic acid behave as monodentate and coordinate to cobalt via the carboxylic acid oxygen and pyridine nitrogen. CAPTC complex crystal belongs to Orthorhombic crystal system with space group Pbcn and distorted tetrahedral geometry. Their absorption and Photoluminescence properties were investigated. The thermal behavior and stability of the complex were studied by TGA. The results show that CAPTC possess excellent stability and its thermal decomposition temperature is 200 ºC. The geometry of the complex was optimized using quantum chemical calculations and the HOMO and LUMO energy and distribution were investigated.
