Abstract

The title complex was prepared by the reaction of bis(acetylacetonato)oxovanadium(IV) benzoylhydrazine and 8-quinolinol in methanol and characterized by IR, Raman, UV spectra and cyclic voltammetry measurements. The vanadium atom has a distorted octahedral VO(ONO)(ON) coordination with a normal VO bond [1.580(4)Å]. Two oxygen atoms and one nitrogen atom of the tridentate hydrazone ligand, and one oxygen atom of 8-quinolinol ligand are coordinated to a vanadium(V) atom, forming an equatorial plane, the axial positions being occupied by an oxo oxygen atom and a nitrogen atom of the 8-quinolinol ligand, respectively. The title complex is the first example of a six-coordinated VO 3+ complex with acetylacetone benzoylhydrazone ligand.
