Abstract

A binuclear copper(I) complex with general formula [Cu(L)]2 where L = N’-(diphenylphosphanyl-benzylidine)-hydrazinecarbodithioic acid methyl ester have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, FT-IR, NMR and UV–Vis spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space system, space group P21/c. The coordination geometry around the copper(I) atom was best described as distorted square planar geometry. The binding interaction between the copper(I) complex and bovine serum albumin (BSA) was studied by absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy at room temperature. The Stern-Volmer quenching constant (Ksv), binding constant (Kb), and number of binding sites (n) were determined.
