Abstract

AbstractTwo novel two‐dimensional (2D) lanthanide(III) coordination polymers [Ln(PDC)(OH)(H2O)2]n (Ln=Eu (1) and Tb (2), H2PDC=pyridine‐3,4‐dicarboxylic acid) have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions, and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, TGA and single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction. Both compounds show the same 2D layer containing 1D Ln–O–Ln chains, and the layers are further connected through hydrogen‐bonding as well as π‐π stacking interactions into a three‐dimensional supramolecular network. Furthermore, both compounds exhibit intense fluorescent emission bands in the solid state at room temperature.
