Abstract

In the ternary phase system, SrO-SiO2-SrBr2, a new material was identified which upon Eu2+ activation resulted in red emission that is useful for LED applications. In this talk, we will discuss the single crystal growth, and the optical properties of Eu2+ in Sr3SiO4Br2. The relevant parameters for use in LED applications such as thermal dependence of emission, QE and excitation are measured and reported. The effects of cationic substitutions of Ca2+ and Ge4+ on the luminescent properties of the Eu2+ ion in Sr3SiO4Br2 will also be described.
