Abstract

Abstract The present work explores the synthesis of novel heterocyclic azo dyes derived from 2-amino-5-methyl-thiazole by diazo-coupling reaction at 0–5 °C and they were characterized by various physical and spectroscopic techniques. The prepared azo colorants were tested for in-vitro cytotoxic activity against A-549 and K-562 cell lines by MTT assay and results revealed that the dyes A1 and A2 proved to be having potential anticancerous property. The cyclic voltammetry was used to study the redox behavior of the azo dyes at different scan rates on glassy carbon electrode in DMSO solution with acetate buffer (pH 5-6) used as a supporting electrolyte. All the tested azo dyes showed well-established redox behavior over a glassy carbon electrode, the overall electrode process is diffusion-controlled and irreversible.
