Abstract

Transition-metal complexes of a conducting polymer, poly(9-hexylfluorene)(abbreviated as PHF), have been prepared and their electrochemical and optical properties investigated. A manganese complex, [Mn(CO)3PHF], is oxidized quasi-reversibly in Bu4NBF4–CF3CO2H at a more negative potential than free PHF, whereas a cobalt complex, [Co(C5Me5)PHF]Clx, is oxidized irreversibly without forming a polaronic state. The photoluminescence intensity of PHF is decreased by coordination to the metals.
