Abstract

A new zinc(II) coordination polymer with 1,4-naphthalene- dicarboxylic acid (1,4-nda) and 1,5-bis(2-methyl-imidazol-1-yl) pentane (bip) has been prepared by hydrothermal synthesis and characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, and EA. The compound, [Zn2(1,4-nda)2(bip)]n (1), is monoclinic, space group C2/c with a = 16.000(2), b = 14.899(2), c = 16.251(2) Å, β = 114.045(2)°, V = 3538(9) Å3, Z = 4, Mr = 791.45, Dc = 1.486 g/cm3, F(000) = 1624, and μ = 1.414 cm−1. The final refinement gave R = 0.0435 and wR = 0.1007 for 2294 reflections with I > 2σ(I). X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the title compound [Zn2(1,4-nda)2(bip)]n (1) displays a two-fold interpenetrating three-dimensional pcu network. Furthermore, the luminescent property of complex 1 is investigated which demonstrates that [Zn2(1,4-nda)2(bip)]n may be a good candidate as a photoactive material.
