Abstract

Two mixed ligand silver(I) complexes, [Ag(ca 2en)(PPh 3)(X)], where ca 2en 1 ca 2en = N, N′-bis( trans-cinnamaldehyde)ethylenediimine. 1 = a bidentate Schiff base, X = N 3 ( 1) and SCN ( 2), have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analyses and 1H NMR, IR and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The crystal and molecular structures of ( 1) and ( 2) were determined by X-ray crystallography. The coordination polyhedron around the silver(I) center in these complexes is best described as a distorted tetrahedron. The N 3 and SCN anions are coordinated to silver(I) as terminal ligands and, unlike its copper analogue, the SCN ligand is coordinated through the S atom in complex ( 2).
