Abstract

We report herein the synthesis and the physicochemical characterization of a new cobalt(III) complex of formula [Co(C12H8N2)3](NO3)3.H2O. This compound has been prepared by slow evaporation at room temperature and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, IR, UV-VIS spectra and thermal analysis (TG and DTA). Structural cohesion is established essentially by π-π interactions between the rings of phenanthroline groups and intermolecular hydrogen bonds connecting the nitrate entities and uncoordinated water molecules.
