Abstract

Zn(II) and Cd(II) coordination compounds containing 4-((pyridin-4-ylmethylene)amino)phenol ligands were synthesized and then characterized using spectroscopic techniques and single crystal X-ray crystallography. The molecular structure and crystal packing of these complexes, as well as the crystal packing of coordination complexes based on 4-substituted-1-(pyridin-4-yl)methanimine ligand, retrieved from Cambridge Structural Database (CSD), were investigated using structural, Hirshfeld surface analyses, and theoretical calculations. The crystal structure of these coordination complexes is governed by a combination of π···π stacking, C–H···π, O–H⋯N, and C–H···X hydrogen bonding interactions. This study provides further insight into the understanding of the role of weak non-covalent interactions in the crystal structure of group IIB containing Schiff-base ligand coordination compounds.
