Abstract

The preparation of ruthenium catalysts by the sol-gel method is described. The preparation consists of adding the active metal to a sol which, by hydrolysis and codensation reactions turns into a gel. The catalytic activity for benzene hydrogenation shown by these catalysts is higher than that of catalysts prepared by impregnation of a commercial silica. A superior resistance to catalytic autodeactivation is observed for catalysts prepared by this method.
