Abstract

The reactions of fluoroalkanoyl peroxides with acrylic acid and dimethylsilicones possessing one vinyl or one methacryloxypropyl end-group have been found to afford new fluoroalkylated acrylic acid cooligomers containing dimethylsilicone segments. These fluorosilicone co-oligomers were shown to be soluble in both water and common organic solvents and to be able to reduce the surface tension of water and m-xylene effectively. Additionally, these co-oligomers were found to exhibit a strong oleophobic property on their surface though possessing long dimethylsilicone chains.
