Abstract

A (Bi 2Sr 2Ca 4Cu 5O 14) 1(Bi 2Sr 2CuO 6) 1 superlattice film synthesized by sequential sputtering on MgO single crystal (001) substrate was studied by X-ray diffraction, magnetization and Hall effect measurements. The superconducting transition temperature observed in the (Bi 2Sr 2Ca 4Cu 5O 14) 1(Bi 2Sr 2CuO 6) 1 superlattice film (41 K) was higher than those of the Bi 2Sr 2Ca 4Cu 5O 14 (10 K) and Bi 2Sr 2CuO 6 (< 2 K) single phase films. The enhancement of superconducting transition temperature by the formation of a superlattice can be explained by assuming charge transfer from the overdoped Bi 2Sr 2CuO 6 units to the underdoped Bi 2Sr 2Ca 4Cu 5O 14 units.
